Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast (SCOBY) is the living "mother" that produces the beverage kombucha when fermented with sweet black tea. Known for its medicinal qualities this material can also be made into paper. This year Seeds InService is collaborating with a scientist at Illinois Institute of Technology to discover how SCOBY can be used as an alternative fiber. Check back for more images and information about our SCOBY paper experiments.
